Bad Brain/LucasArts Negotiations … Break Down

Sam & Max: Freelance Police un-cancelled? Possibly. I hate to be the one to build up a false sense of hope, so if it all fizzles, just blame jp-30 of Mixnmojo. Err, anyway, it has come to my attention that there’s considerable internet buzz about a deal being struck between publisher Bad Brain Entertainment and LucasArts involving our oft-cancelled friends, Sam and Max. For more information, check out Aventura y Cïa’s story on this (it’s in English). As usual, Sam and Max fans will have to wait to hear anything conclusive on the subject. All things considered, though, interesting stuff!

Update: Well, it didn’t work out, apparently. Can’t say I’m shocked but it sucks real bad all the same. The following disappointing - but in no way shocking - news update appeared on the Bad Brain website a little while after the above whisperings:

It was so degrading!

We tried everything to bring you the game you all wanted. But it seems all hope has gone. They broke of negotiations. But you truly have to believe that it wasn’t our fault and it sure wasn’t the money. We just don’t know and they don’t tell.

But we don’t give up that easy. There is still a glimpse of hope and Steve Purcell is the one who is in charge now. We are talking … and we are hopeing … again.

Here is what you can do: tell Steve P. to give us Sam & Max and we, at bad brain promise you the best and boldest Sam & Max 3D Point&Click-Adventure ever. Support us and we will give you what you want!

Enough said. I have to go and have a drink now. Kids: don’t do this at home!

The official Sam&Max.net stance is that, despite Bad Brain’s pleas, we are sure that Steve Purcell, Bad Brain, and any other involved parties can work this out without an email deluge from the fans.

It’s perfectly obvious at this point that fans would kill for a new Sam & Max adventure, so telling Steve Purcell as much won’t do much but needlessly put him on the spot. We trust Bad Brain can deal with this like adults. Or, at least we hope they can.

Comments are off because this is probably a really old post.
