New Telltale Sam & Max Contest!

Sunday, October 7th, 2007 by Bryan

Want to win a free Season Two download bundle and a copy of the Surfin’ the Highway rerelease for free? Well, if that’s case, you better be willing to submit to Telltale…your awesome Sam & Max related entries! It’s just like last year’s competition, except this year. Start cracking some skulls!

Details! (Better than deheads.)

Six new Season Two screenshots are up!

The pricing per episode remains unchanged at $8.95, with the option to buy the whole five episode shebang upfront for $34.95 or to upgrade to the complete season after purchasing a single game for only $26 more! I’d highly recommend dishing out the cash for the full season as Telltale once again will collect the games on DVD (along with supplementary material) exclusively for those customers and make them available for the measly price of shipping.

On another note, the Telltale blog mentions various gaming sites doing various journalistic tasks related to Season Two. We at The Unofficial refuse to put food directly into the mouths of our enemies, so if you want to read those articles you can go scrounging around the bottom of that link to find them.

The fan mail and submissions have been overwhelming and I would suggest that you strive to come up with the most creative e-mail titles possible to fool my spam filter. Unless I get something extraordinary in soon, I just may have to default the Sam & Max Fan of the Week Title to Synthetic Gerbil. (And trust me, nobody wants that.) Stay swarthy!

Expect Episode 201: Ice Station Santa to make its way onto GameTap the Thursday of November 8th, 2007! (Day later for those of you who will digitally purchase the game through Telltale. Boohoo.)

Episode 202 debuts on January 10th, and the subsequent installments in the season will adhere to monthly releases. More information tomorrow!

Keep on sending us your letters of appreciation and if you impress us enough, you just might become The Unofficial’s Sam & Max Fan of the Week! Hey, sometimes it’s good to have unrealistic hopes and dreams.

Adventure Gamers Previews Season Two

Sunday, September 16th, 2007 by Bryan

Check out their article and live vicariously through their ability to see Season Two before the rest of us poor saps. They elaborate on new features such as customizable levels of hints from Max, a tutorial for new players, more resolution options, and making Sam run. Also, we can expect the overarching storyline to play a bigger role this go around, as well as new characters along with the return of many beloved old ones. There is mention of more risqué humor than last season, so let us pray for the Telltale staff and their decline into moral turpitude. (Or we could just be excited that the comedy is moving more towards the comic’s direction and away from the television series’s. Either or.)

Forums (no longer) Offline

Looks like our forums, which are part of the large LucasForums community, have suffered some technical issues and are down pending maintenance. I’m not sure exactly what’s going on, but I do know that Matt–, the forum admin/LFN tech guy is cool, and tends to get this stuff fixed as soon as he can. Shouldering 2+ million posts and a ton of members is tough work for any database, so we wish the admins well in getting the site back up.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but feel free to post all the bilious tripe you want in the comments until the boards are back up and rolling. We love you.

Edit: They’re back maybe.

DVD details emerge

Sunday, September 9th, 2007 by David

A website has posted an update about the upcoming Sam and Max: Freelance Police!!! (that’s the TV show, guy) DVD release, straight from the mouth/fingers of Shout! Factory producer, Brian Ward. Here are some tidbits that you might not have known before looking at this page today:

  • It’s a 3-DVD set!
  • Steve Purcell featurette detailing history of the characters and show!
  • Telltale Games featurette (and more?)…!
  • Three shorts that originally aired with the episodes!
  • Our Bewildering Universe short film! (even though you probably already saw it)
  • Artwork from the series!
  • …and possibly Purcell’s “Series Bible”!

Ward goes on to state that all of these are pending approval by Nelvana–the company that originally put the series together for television–but that’s no reason not to set our hopes and expectations astronomically high!

Telltale posted some in-game dialogue between Bosco, Sam, and Max, captured in video form from an upcoming episode. The link’s down below the big cinematic thing. Thanks, as usual, Mojo.

Hey, look at this kind of closely.

Go and see what you (most likely) missed a chance to contribute to at Telltale’s hour-long panel during PAX. Marvel at the speed of Sam & Max content creation!

And hey, everybody loves a blooper reel! Especially when it’s viewing is no longer exclusive to some expo that you didn’t go to!
