Freelance Police: One Year in the Grave

Thursday, March 3rd, 2005 by Jake

It’s been a year since LucasArts killed off development on Sam & Max Freelance Police and made us all sad. In the meantime, Sam & Max have had a bumpy ride, including a time where they almost fell into the hands of the Germans. Elsewhere, a chunk of the Freelance Police development team split off from LucasArts to form their own company, Telltale Games, and are making a new point and click adventure based around Jeff Smith’s immensely popular and acclaimed Bone comic.

And what about the fans? For months, still fueled by white hot rage of cancellation, the fans went completely insane. Many still go insane. Some claim to still be boycotting LucasArts. Today, on the one year anniversary of the game getting the chop, the band “droog” has even released an angst-filled pop ballad centered around the Sam & Max mourning. At least they do it all out of love.

As said on Mixnmojo, if you want you should remove your caps and observe a moment of silence for the game, but I’m optimistic. Freelance Police might be dead but this isn’t the end of Sam & Max.

In other news, The Unofficial Sam & Max site turned six years old on February 26th. Happy birthday us!
