Soda Poppers
From Sam & Max Wiki
The Soda Poppers are a trio of former child stars named Specs, Peepers & Whizzer. They often meet with Sam & Max throughout the events of Sam & Max Save the World & Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space. They are first looked at as minor annoyances, but eventually become the rulers of Hell and the main antagonists of Beyond Time and Space. Their 34-35th birthday takes place in Situation: Comedy, while their 35th-36th takes place in What's new, Beelzebub?

[edit] Biography
[edit] Season One
The Soda Poppers are triplets, though Peepers is one year younger than the other two, due to a "very prolonged labor". They starred in the TV show of the same name, which began in either 1970 or 1971. However, their ages were given as 35 and 34 in Abe Lincoln Must Die!. They had ended up becoming #1 in the fall season of that year and succeeded in defeating Brady Culture in that year.
Prior to they're first appearance, they had been hypnotized by Brady Culture, the former star of the show that the Soda Poppers replaced, as part of his plan to hypnotize the world into loving him (possibly using Prismatology). Specs had graffitied on the wall, Peepers stole Sybil's identity while Whizzer delivered videotapes to Bosco's store. After Sybil cured Peepers by telling him to "destroy the intruder" in his dreams after S&M saved Sybil, this gave Sam and Max the knowledge to cure the other two by first knocking them out, then telling them to "destroy the intruder in their dreams". Peepers, the first popper, told S&M that the other two know where Culture is; when they were awaken, their knowledge combined allows S&M to track him down at Brady Culture's Home For Former Child Stars. They later got hypnotized in their attempt to defeat Culture alongside S&M, though Sam convinced Brady into saying "ATTACK ME!" to him, killing him and sending him to Hell.
They next appeared on Embarrassing Idol, in which Peepers was a contestant while his brothers were both judges. Ironically, not only did this happen on their birthday, but they developed a grudge against Sam and Max after they inconvenienced all three of them in different ways:
- Peepers was inconvenienced by Sam being voted as winner by Max and Specs.
- Whizzer was inconvenienced when Sam and Max gave him a birthday cake covered in ketchup, which put him "out of commission." He stated earlier that day that he hated tomato and "once spent 12 hours in a bathroom" after eating one.
- Specs was inconvenienced when Sam broke his glasses with a high note, because his glasses, according to Specs, are "not cheap."
They then ran for governor of North and South Dakota, and, when all three were elected, split the two states into three, leaving Whizzer the governor of West Dakota. They later declared war on one other over who got Mount Rushmore with a little aid from Sam and Max who started the war in order to use the War Room.
[edit] Season Two
At some point, they annexed Nebraska, and were all voted out of office. It was probably around then that they started their takeover of Hell, and how they were so incredibly hated. They sent the Shambling Corporate Presence to Santa Claus accidentally (planning to send it to Satan), triggering the events of Ice Station Santa (which, at the end of, did they send the SCP to Hell). Between ICS & What's new, Beelzebub? do they manage to become the rulers of Hell.
In What's new, Beelzebub? the entire scheme of these Poppers was revealed. After Sam released all the souls of those in his archive of donations in Hell, Satan, in exchange for the revival of those souls, sent Sam to his own personal hell (consisting of Peepers as his partner). The Soda Poppers revealed themselves as the true leaders of hell.
Not only did they reveal that the events of Ice Station Santa were a clerical error, but they also revealed that their actions throughout Season One (former child stars, reality television, the civil war) were all made to intentionally make everyone hate them more, as "hate is the real power [in hell]". They also reveal that the four enemies they had faced throughout Season Two were all defeated; this gave them an excuse to take a larger percentage of Hell. They then explained that they hate S&M because, as explained above, they ruined their birthday. They also used the phrase "current marketplace realities and underlying economic considerations" (the same phrase used to describe the cancellation of Sam & Max: Freelance Police (Video Game).
After firing Satan, they then tried to conduct the three steps to bring out Armageddon; Peepers had to seduce Sybil, Whizzer had to get Girl Stinky to give him the cake & Specs had to take the soul of one of The C.O.P.S.. Using Timmy Two-Teeth's help, Sam and Max, by telling Peepers his real name (Dick Peacock), had thwarted his plans; the upgrade of the computer Specs faced allowed him to defeat Specs, while Whizzer's plans were squashed when Grandpa Stinky revealed Girl Stinky's true identity (then recreated her).
They were then later seen in Hell, and even though they failed to bring about armageddon, they had transformed into their demon forms to make themselves much more powerful. Peepers & Whizzer had the power to shoot eye-lasers & firing pee respectively. Specs was dressed in bondage clothes lacking a power. They used the Bell, book, and candle to send Sam and Max to a firing pit; but their past selves saved them. When they returned, Satan held the poppers off; using the same style of ringing the bell, closing the book and blowing the candle did they send the poppers to that same lava pit, killing them.
[edit] Specs
Specs is a neat- and control-freak who gets annoyed when other people ruin his plans, prompting him to say his tagline: "You made me mess up!". As seen in What's New Beelzebub, he is quite a skilled violinist. His demon form is the only one that is different from those of his siblings (His resembles a Medieval torturer's outfit). He seems to think he's smarter than the other two and can be slightly condescending. He is named for his glasses.
[edit] Peepers
Peepers is named for his big eyes, which he occasionally draws attention to with his tagline: "I can see you!". In What's new, Beelzebub?, Peepers tricks Sybil into briefly falling in love with him, but she snaps out of it when it turns out that his true name is Dick Peacock. In his demon form, Peepers dons a costume identical to his normal one, although it is black and has flame designs. In this form, he is able to shoot powerful lasers from his eyes. In The City That Dares Not Sleep, Momma Bosco uses a recording of Peeper's voice to keep Junior Max away from her lab.
[edit] Whizzer
Whizzer is named for his repeated bathroom breaks, which he often announces with his tagline: "Time out for number 1!". Prior to Abe Lincoln Must Die! he swore off soda in order to get around this issue, but thanks to Sam & Max this change was a short-lived one. Whizzer's demon form looks identical to that of Peepers. In his demon form, he is able to pee fire.
