Rats
From Sam & Max Wiki
Rats are common in Sam and Max's adventures.
[edit] Description
In most comics, the rats are background characters in scenes, seen stealing food out of trash cans or running across a panel. They have a near-human level of intelligence, being able to speak English, stand upright (though they prefer walking any significant distance on all-fours) and use simple tools. No rat is particularly intellectual however. Those rats who don't simply live off trash usually turn to petty crime to support themselves.
The man-sized anthropomorphic rats seen on the moon in Bad Day on the Moon should be considered a separate species, and have a human-like culture.
Steve Purcell had pet rats, as mentioned in Telltale's article History of Sam & Max part 1. One was named Ernie, who inspired the rats in Steve's other comics. Toybox, another comic by Steve, has a rat named Ernie, likely named after his own pet rat.
The most significant Rats are of the Jimmy Two-Teeth family including him, Mary Two-Teeth and Timmy Two-Teeth. All voiced by Joey Camen.
