The C.O.P.S.

The Computer Obsolescence Prevention Society (abbreviated C.O.P.S.) is a group of four Artificial Intelligence vintage computers. Their first appearance was in Reality 2.0, where they were responsible for maintaining various aspects of the eponymous Reality 2.0.
While C.O.P.S. is an abbreviation and Society a singular, the abbreviated form is usually pronounced "cops" and always treated as a plural.

[edit] Character Detail

After Reality 2.0 breaks down the C.O.P.S. continue to cooperate on various other software projects. In Season Two they operate a garage named Pimp le Car, offering useful car upgrades for the Desoto in exchange for Sam & Max' help with their latest project. In The Devil's Playhouse the C.O.P.S. have taken up residence in the DeSoto after losing the garage, and offer Sam & Max what assistance they can in exchange.

The C.O.P.S. have various speech impediments which they get around by having different members handle different parts of conversations; as such, conversations with the C.O.P.S. are always with all four at the same time.

[edit] Bob Bell

Bob is an automated telephone with a voice and vocabulary reminiscent of both movie trailer voice-overs and automated hotlines. Bob appears to have the most linguistic versatility and tends to carry the COPS' half of the conversation most of the time. It is revealed in The Penal Zone that his last name is "Bell".

[edit] Bluster Blaster

Bluster Blaster is an arcade machine. His speech is limited to very short and easy phrases spoken with excessive emphasis. He becomes mellow and confused after he has an accident testing the SOL antenna prior to Night of the Raving Dead. (The real reason for his voice to change was that Jared Emerson Johnson, voice of the C.O.P.S., had a sore throat for days after every recording session due to having to shout every one of his lines.) It is revealed in Chariots of the Dogs that Bluster Blaster was originally created by young Sam.

Bluster Blaster's (initial) speech patterns and general appearance resemble that of Sinistar, whose namesake end boss is Steve Purcell's "all time favorite arcade game character". In particular, Bluster Blaster's first line in his original debut episode is "I HUNGER!", which is a direct quote.

In The Penal Zone it is revealed that he left the C.O.P.S. to go on a vacation to Las Vegas with Bosco.

He reappears in Beyond the Alley of the Dolls having been captured by the Samulacra while they were looking for toys. His card-counting scheme with Bosco failed as he counted the cards out loud. He left Bosco in Vegas while he payed off the his debt to the casino, and want nothing to do with him ever again. He then proclaims his life with The C.O.P.S. is "Terminated." In The City That Dares Not Sleep, he goes on a vacation with Carol, much to The C.O.P.S. broken feelings.

If the Future Vision power is used on him, his final fate is floating in outer space, proclaiming "THIS IS AWESOME!"

[edit] Curt 286

Curt looks most like an Osborne 1. He uses a synthetic voice similar to that of Stephen Hawking, which has some peculiarities such as explicitly pronouncing every "-" (as "hyphen"). He often uses difficult technical terms. "286" is given as Curt's last name in The Penal Zone.

[edit] Chippy

Chippy is a Pong home console system (though What's new, Beelzebub? shows him to be capable of holding a Mimesweeper cartridge). His speech is limited to various beeping sounds, but Curt at one point remarks that he is usually swearing. As revealed in The Penal Zone, he owns a Japanese Robot dog, who he wishes to join the C.O.P.S. The other members (who at that point have lost Bluster Blaster), refuse to let the dog join, because, "We've talked about this. That dog is straight up creepy."

[edit] Carol

Carol is an outdated printer-scanner, found in the sewer underneath The Street during the events of The Penal Zone. The other C.O.P.S. find her attractive, despite her lack of voice and, apparently, sentience. She is adapted into the "Crime-Tron", and becomes very useful in analyzing evidence to find General Skun-ka'pe and the Museum of Mostly Natural History. In The City That Dares Not Sleep, she breaks The C.O.P.S. hearts by going on a extended vacation with the C.O.P.S. recently resigned member Bluster Blaster.
