[edit] In-Depth Synopsis
During a stormy night Sam and Max sit in as Mary Shelley recounts a horror story to Yeats and Byron. They decide to tell a story of their own:
Sam & Max: Freelance Constables are chasing a thief when Max gets hit by a carriage. Max is fine except for his tail having come off. As he descends into madness, Sam takes him to see Dr Disfunctio Cerebri, who agrees to help them in exchange for some ingredients for his monster.
They return with improvised ingredients and the procedure is performed. The monster comes to life, and so does Max's tail, scaring off monster and doctor both. An angry mob then drives off the tail before it can be reunited with Max. A little girl by the water is the last one ever to have seen it and the story ends.
Mary Shelly and company find the story a bunch of silly nonsense, but then Max's tail comes off and roars, scaring them away. Sam, Max and the tail stay around eating snacks.
