[edit] Hi!

Hi there, Harald B!

So... admin, huh? Umm... I'm not very good with casual chat so, I'll try and keep this short.

I have a few ideas for the wiki. Not a lot, but a few.

I love how users here are so nice, while over at the HRWiki they bite your head off if you don't put something in italics...

In closing, I don't know why I posted this!

So I'll leave you with my favourite quote from Sam & Max from today: Sam: "Commissioner! How's the rash?"

TheHighway 17:17, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Huh?

Hey, Harald, ummmmmm, I had to create a new account after you formatted the Wiki or something a couple of days ago. Could you tell me why? The Highway 07:44, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Never mind, i just realised i put a space between the and highway, so you can delete this one if you want! The Highway 07:44, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
Accounts can't be deleted, just banned. I'm not too comfortable pulling out the ban-hammer for no good reason, so I'll probably only do that if you ask me to.Harald B 21:28, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
Well, because I'm not going to need it or use it, then it really serves no purpose. But you dont have to delete it if you dont want to. {{User:TheHighway/sig}} 07:33, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
We've got a new Extension for this purpose today, so I've now merged The Highway into TheHighway and deleted the account with the space. --Harald B 10:43, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Aware

I'm aware of this, thats why I'm only doing this for the games.

[edit] Screenshots

I noticed you seem to do a lot of the work around here, and I'd like to try to help. Within the past month, I've made some minor edits, but nothing big. One thing I would like to know, though, is how you take screenshots in-game. (Rct2guy 02:08, 18 May 2010 (UTC))

Thank you, that's always welcome. To take a screenshot, press the PrintScreen button to copy it into memory. Then go into an image editing program and paste it. Harald B 06:10, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
Oh, ok.I didn't know that worked in games! Awesome. Well, seeing as the Tomb of Sammun-Mak was released today, I figure I'll take a couple of screenshots. However, I am pretty busy, but I'm sure I can find time to fit it in. (Rct2guy 20:17, 18 May 2010 (UTC))

[edit] Userboxes

I'm considering creating some userboxes, both serious ones (gender, age, admin, bureaucrat, etc.) and humorous ones ("This user smokes Garlic Clove Cigarettes", "This user is an agent of T.H.E.M.", etc.) Some other wikis like Harry Potter and Twilight have such boxes. What do you think about this idea? --AnotherSockPuppet 11:11, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

I like it. Been considering it for a while actually. So please go right ahead. Once I've taken a better look at how the code works I may make a couple of them myself and set up a gallery page. Harald B 14:24, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
Could we have one that says "Competitive Fizzball Player" and "This user can't pick that item up." or something? I'll give you guys a cookie... ^_^ Traveler of Game Worlds 06:44, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
What, the userbox creation template I made isn't easy enough for you? Hm, how about something like this?
Competitive Fizzball Player
Edit to see the easily modified code. Change after taste. Harald B 09:15, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I kinda lost the code in the "Recent Changes" page and couldn't think of a way to find it with the search bar. Thanks! ^_^; *gives cookie* Traveler of Game Worlds 19:18, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
  • Perhaps we should set up a Sam & Max Wiki:Userboxes page, so it would be easier for people to find the boxes and to use them? We've created quite a few userboxes, but only you and Alex use them. --AnotherSockPuppet 19:47, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
Sure, I suppose it's about time. I'll put something up. --Harald B 20:11, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

[edit] sig & username

First of all, hi! Second, I have no idea how to make my username normal again! Can you help me? Thanks! I'm still getting better! The Highway 09:23, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

I've been wondering about that sig of yours. You need to go to "my preferences" and clear out the Signature box. That should get it back to normal. --Harald B 10:52, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
Thanks! Oh, and I almost forgot the other bit! (hence the "username" in the title) Is it possible to put a space between The and Highway? a minor thing, I don't care whether or not it can be done, but on other wikis i have been able to change my username. TheHighway 12:24, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
You can put it in your sig at least by putting The Highway in that Signature box (and not checking "Raw signatures"). I can't think of a non-messy way to change your actual login name and get old edits credited to the new one. Maybe other wikis have special tools for that or something; I don't know. Harald B 14:23, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
Good enough for me! TheHighway 15:18, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Fanstuff subwiki

Umm, perhaps it's time to start it? There are tons of fan creations that may interest wiki readers, and some other projects like Space Quest wiki have fangame-related articles. --AnotherSockPuppet 12:24, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

I'm hesitant. For one thing, it's tricky running two wikis from one server and getting the interlinks and user accounts matched up properly. And it's a request I'd have to pass on to David and Jake, who are friendly but tend to move slowly on such matters. But we could alternatively just add a namespace and change some legal text, which would make it look less distinct but be a lot easier all-round.
More importantly, I'm not convinced there's a need or much want for it. There is a lot of Sam & Max fanart being produced, but the deviantART group and Telltale forum thread are doing well at handling it. Relative newcomer Samandmax.co.uk is having trouble getting people to submit fanstuff for its own section. Frankly I doubt the fandom is large enough to support another fanstuff site. I can hardly ask the webmasters to go through the trouble of setting up a fanstuff wiki when people will likely go "meh". I could change my mind if more people told me they'd like to see it, especially people who would actually put stuff up on it. --Harald B 10:02, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
Actually, I'm planning to write about unfinished Sam & Max fangames: Case Gilbert, Flintlocked, etc., just the way we write about official games (plot summaries, inventory item screenshots, etc.) Unlike fanart, fangames don't get enough coverage (there are no DeviantART groups or something like that), although they are certainly of no less interest to fans than drawings. All I ask for is some space for such articles, whether it would be a subwiki or just a namespace. Besides, there's a new S&M fangame in the works, so I feel there will be plenty to write about after some months.

P.S. Please rename my account to "Mr. Norrington". Best wishes, --AnotherSockPuppet 10:24, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

Oh, ok, fine. I'll see if I can arrange a Fanstuff namespace or a namespace editing Extension. While I'm at it I'll also see about an extension to let me rename user accounts. You're the second person to ask for something like that and the functionality doesn't come standard. I'll let you know when the necessary changes are in place. --Harald B 14:40, 1 January 2011 (UTC)
Thank you very much :)) --AnotherSockPuppet 15:27, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

The Fanstuff namespace has been created. I'm off to add some basic structure and policy and a few links, after which we can announce it and start properly. I'll also undelete the Case Gilbert page at that time, so you don't have to recreate that from scratch. I should also be able to change your name now. Do you want it to be "Mr. Norrington" or "Dr. Norrington"? --Harald B 09:38, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

Ok, we should be pretty much ready for business now. --Harald B 10:48, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
Mr. Norrington. --AnotherSockPuppet 13:20, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
Ok, done. --Harald B 13:31, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

[edit] I have a question.

How can you get Admin powers? I'm not asking for them (I SAW UR RULES), but I'm just asking, how? I'm trying to advance this wiki(a) to its best editing.

There's a special page a Bureaucrat (ie me) would have to use to make you one. Harald B 19:42, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

--SuperbowserX 23:27, 28 August 2011 (UTC)OK, but like really... HOW do you become one I mean thanks for telling me how UYOU make one, but how doI get the rights to you making me an admin? I mean I've contributed lots to this...--SuperbowserX 23:27, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

Oh, that. There's not really any special path to becoming an admin. Being a big contributor certainly helps a lot, but it's also a matter of whether the wiki needs another admin. Things would have to get pretty busy again before I appoint another. Since this wiki tends to fall asleep between releases, I sadly have no idea when that's going to happen. Harald B 06:45, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

--SuperbowserX 13:51, 4 September 2011 (UTC)Alright, I just REALLY believe I should be an admin. I mean I think I am one of the better contributors here.--SuperbowserX 13:51, 4 September 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Hey...

Is there a way to find red-dead links that link to a page that doesn't exist? --SuperbowserX 16:49, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by that, but try Special:WantedPages. It's mostly garbage though, since we're pretty good at covering the bases. --Harald B 22:03, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
I mean where can I find pages that have red links so i can correct/remove those links to improve the page. --SuperbowserX 13:09, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Quick Message

I just gotta say... Well I just completed the first two episodes of Season Three (to complete those last three soon), and I checked out their articles. ...Boy, I really have alot of work to do.

[edit] New Message (May 10th 2012)

Gonna get back to Wiki 5x a day! Removing all spam and seeing all changes.--SuperbowserX 04:44, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

I'm terribly sorry, but it is beyond impossible for me to block and delete EVERYSPAM. Way to much. Sorry. Can only review spam on REAL pages.

Ah, thank goodness! Ok, how about this: you keep new spam from being added for a while while I go through the log and delete the old spam. After that the rate should drop back to a more manageable level. --Harald B 07:59, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
