What's new, Beelzebub? is the fifth and final episode of season two of the Sam & Max video game series by Telltale Games. The episode takes place exactly one year after Situation: Comedy. In this episode, Sam and Max go on a quest to return Bosco's soul to his body (after its death in the last episode), but they accidentally end up questing themselves on much more than that...

[edit] Synopsis
After going through the portal at the end of Chariots of the Dogs, Sam and Max find themselves in a subway station that leads to Hell. Death refuses to let them in as they do not have a soul token, which is given to the deceased. When they leave the subway they find themselves on The Street they live on! Ms Bosco has moved here trying to find the man who trashed her store 60 years ago. She has a soul token, located somewhere in the store; but since Flint Paper is prepping Abe Lincoln's bachelor party, they can't get in. Sybil is seen planning her wedding and Jimmy Two-Teeth has turned the Maimtron 9000 into a family laser light show that he is preparing.
Sam and Max retrieve the Boxing Betty remote from their past selves, and use it on the Maimtron 9000 (which is apparently compatible with these remotes). It knocks out and kills virtually all the rats in it, with the exception of Timmy Two-Teeth, who has Terminal Tourette's (according to Jimmy, falling from heights is fatal to someone with Terminal Tourette's). Sam and Max use the Maimtron 9000 to retrieve the Soul Token from Bosco's Inconvenience. Jimmy is tying to get The C.O.P.S. to help his son, but they are unable to help fast enough. As Jimmy is left standing in wait, Sam and Max use the token to go to Hell.
When they get there, they find Jurgen as the receptionist. When they get into the main building, Hugh Bliss, Brady Culture & The Shambling Corporate Presence are all working in hell (the latter simply playing Mimesweeper). Satan refuses to assist Sam and Max in returning their friends. Mr. Spatula is also found in the kitchen corner. They find a door leading to a shrine of the thousands of souls they donated to Hell; they find a diorama for Bosco, Santa, the Red Elf, the Desoto & Grandpa Stinky. Using Nitrous Oxide, Sam and Max save Bosco and the car. While those souls are no longer in hell, they are still trapped/owned by Satan, who has not directed their attention towards Sam and Max yet.
They then notice that while the Red Elf's toys he makes in Ted E. Bear's Mafia Free Playland and Casino's factory are always being rejected, [[Santa Claus], who is rejecting the toys, is being incredibly disturbed and thrown off by small babies (he also reveals that he hates children). They can easily throw the babies off, though they will simply return back with the gift dispenser. By convincing the Red Elf to make a perfect toy that burns a hole in the gift dispenser, any baby the dispenser shoots will fall down the chute. The dispenser then dies(?), never to be seen again, freeing Santa (the Red Elf as well). Satan still has not directed his attention to them yet.
Now Sam and Max find Death cruelly prepared to send Timmy Two-Teeth to hell as his sin folder is very light. Jimmy is begging for mercy; however, Sam and Max use The Monster to distract Death allowing them to switch Jimmy and Timmy's folder; this causes Timmy to be sent to hell. The same hell as Grandpa Stinky, with demon Girl Stinky hosting a show. By causing Timmy to swear, Hugh Bliss, the master censorer, cancels the show freeing Stinky and Timmy.
(The order of these last three paragraphs can be done in any order the player wishes.)
Now Hell's Efficiency is at an all-time low, finally attracting Satan's undivided attention. He agrees to free the five souls Sam and Max took out of their Hell's, provided Sam signs a contract. Foolishly Sam signs the contract; he is then convinced to think of the "worst thing he can think of". Next thing known, Sam finds himself in his own personal hell, consisting of him in The Office with Peepers as his partner! Using Max's help, Sam is freed and Demon Peepers is destroyed. Now that they are both out, Satan notes that "management" will have him in trouble. This confuses Sam as to who can be more evil than Satan... then the truth is revealed that it is the Soda Poppers! They sent the SCP to Santa Claus (triggering the events of Ice Station Santa) accidentally, and that all their actions throughout Sam & Max Save the World were intended to make them universally hated, thus allowing them to become the rulers of hell! They fire Satan, and try to initiate the three steps of bringing about armageddon; seducing a human woman, tempting humanity to repeat the original sin, and taking the perfect soul.
Peepers fails about trying to seduce Sybil despite his new form allowing him to look handsome as Sam and Max exploit his real name, Dick Peacock (with Timmy Two-Teeth and Hugh Bliss's help). They than help Grandpa Stinky and Girl Stinky with getting rid of Whizzer, and finally help one of The C.O.P.S. (Chippy) win a music battle with Specs. (The order of these events is once again, completely costumizable).
Now, with Satan's help, they go in to confront the Soda Popper's once more time. The Soda Poppers then go into a form where they have much more power; now, using the "bell, book & candle" they send Sam and Max to a pit of lava, only for their past selves to save them. As Satan distracts them, Sam and Max use the same strategy to send the Soda Poppers to the pit of lava, killing them, and saving the day. Abe Lincoln and Sybil's wedding now begins.

[edit] Notes
- The title is based on the 1965 movie Whats New, Pussycat.
- Inside the Elf's personal Hell, Sam can inspect the One-Armed Bandit. Upon noting his arm's off, Sam will reply "'Tis but a flesh wound!". This is a reference to Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
- If the player examines the Carbonite in one of the office rooms, Sam says that nothing pleases investors more that smugglers trapped in carbonite. This is a reference to the Star Wars franchise, where Han Solo gets trapped in carbonite and sent to Jabba the Hutt.
- When introducing themselves to Satan, Satan replies. "Pleased to meet you. I hope you can guess my name." This is a reference to the Rolling Stones' song Sympathy for the Devil.
- Occasionally, some characters will foreshadow what will happen in Hell before they allow Max to do something. Humorously, both of these happen in the games final.
- Sam says there will be snow flurries in Hell before he allows Max to control the Maimtron 9000.
- Sybil says that they will be severing ice cream in Hell before she allows Max to speak at her wedding.
- After altering the list of words which Hugh Bliss censors, a censored version of More than Jerks will play on Stinky's jukebox.
- In the cooking show diorama, the demonic version of Stinky always says "Damn!" when she adds a new ingredient to her recipe, similar to how Emeril Lagasse always says "Bam!" when he does the same thing.
- The pile of MimeSweeper cartridges buried at shores of the Styx river is a reference to the infamous Atari video game burial.
- After Sam remarks he thought these cartridges were buried in the desert, Max tells him the sandworms probably brought them here; a reference to Dune, a sci-fi series in which giant sandworms live under the surface of the desert.
- The List of Seven words on the wall of Hugh Bliss' cubicle are a reference to George Carlin's "The Seven Words you can't say on Television".
- The "Soul Train" that leads to hell is introduced in much the same way as the televised music and dancing program "Soul Train", popular in the 70s.
- When Sam and Max prevent Peepers from wooing Sybil by uttering his true name, Sybil will recoil in horror at the sight of the demon Peepers by saying "What have you done to his eyes!" which is a reference to Rosemary's Baby when Rosemary says the same line.
- When the spaceship is destroyed at the beginning of the game, Sam & Max listen to the AI onboard the spaceship say, "Spaceship destroyed, but I still have the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission." This is a reference to what HAL 9000 says in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
- When Sam speaks in the karaoke machine in the sewers, he says "They call me...Mr. Tibbs". This is a reference to the famous line from the movie In the Heat of the Night.
- Specs tries to gain Chippy's soul by challenging him to a music competition, referencing the song "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" by Charlie Daniels Band.
- Completing this episode gives you a 20G Achievement on the XBox 360.
- Satan was featured on the icon (he was the minor villain) and the icon background was red. This fitted the episode because the episode was all about Hell.
